ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting RIT opened the first half with seven goals and the second half with eight goals en route to a 20-8 victory over Nazareth on Saturday in the Golden Flyers home opener.
Kate Metzler led Nazareth with four points on two goals and two assists. Freshman
MacKenzie Dixson notched her first career goals in the game and added another later on.
Nazareth falls to 0-3 on the season with the loss, while RIT moves to 1-1.
RIT controlled the game with the draw control, having a 24-8 edge for the game.
RIT scored the first seven goals and led 7-0 after the first quarter.
Maggie Vay scored Nazareth's first goal of the game with 12:23 left in the half on an assist from
Caraline Riley.
RIT responded with the next three goals to take a 10-1 midway through the second.
Nazareth came to life to close out the half, scoring the next five goals to pull within 10-6 at the break.
Vay netted her second of the half to start the run. Dixson,
Makenna Misiurewicz,
Liddie Hoare, and Metzler were the other goal scorers.
Much as they did in the first half, the Tigers had a strong start, scoring the next eight goals spanning into the fourth quarter.
With the score 18-6, Metzler was able to stop the run with 9:09 to play from Misiurewicz. That was followed up by Dixon getting her second of the day nearly three minutes later but Nazareth would not score the rest of the way.
Allie Klestinec was tagged with the loss after playing nearly 50 minutes, making eight saves and allowing 14 goals.
Tori Henchen played 10:10, making one save and surrendering six goals.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Fredonia for a 4 p.m. contest.
