POTSDAM, NY – Visiting Nazareth held Clarkson to just three second half goals and earned a come-from-behind 13-10 victory over Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon.
Quinn McKercher,
Quinn Conroy and
Louis Cogliandro each tallied three goals in the victory.
Nazareth moves to 2-2 on the season, while Clarkson drops to 1-2.
The Golden Flyers trailed 7-6 at halftime. Cogliandro netted a man-up goal with 4:25 to play from Conroy to tie the game at 6-6 before the Knights netted the final goal of second quarter.
Matthew Farrington,
Andy Hamel and
William Meagher scored in the opening quarter.
In the third, Farrington followed up a
William O'Neill goal to give the Golden Flyers a brief advantage.
Following an 8-8 tie, Nazareth took the lead for good with the final two goals of the third quarter.
Brendan Regan lit the lamp, before McKercher broke through for a 10-8 advantage.
Just three minutes into the fourth, Clarkson pulled back within one goal. The Golden Flyers had an answer, however, as Cogliandro scored on his second man-up of the day to begin a three-goal run for Nazareth to pull away. Conroy scored an unassisted goal and McKercher scored his 7
th of the year to make it 13-9.
Jakob Denkenberger was 13-for-25 on faceoffs and led the Golden Flyers with seven ground balls. Farrington and
Luke Suchyna each had four ground balls.
McLean Ralston kept his strong start to the season going as he made 13 saves.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, traveling to Ithaca for 4 p.m. contest.
