McKercher Scores Six Times As Men's Lax Storms Back To Defeat Western New England, 14-11

WINGATE, NC – Senior Quinn McKercher tied a career-high with six goals as Nazareth overcame a 3-goal fourth quarter deficit to defeat Western New England 14-11 on Tuesday at Wingate University. 

Nazareth is now winners of three straight and are 6-3 overall, while Western New England is 2-4.
 
In the fourth, Western New England went ahead 10-7 with an early goal before William Meagher notched a tally, followed by a man-up goal from McKercher to pull within one.
 
The Golden Bears responded with a goal to regain a 2-goal advantage with 8:13 remaining, however Nazareth scored the last five goals of the game to seal the victory.
 
Andy Hamel, who had two goals in the game, started the run just under the seven-minute mark off an assist from Matthew Farrington. Farrington tied the game at 12 apiece before McKercher gave the Golden Flyers the lead for good at 12-11 with just under six minutes to play.
 
Farrington and Meagher each added another goal on the run to help secure the victory. Farrington was good for three goals and two assists in the win.
 
It was a slow start to the game, with just one goal in the first 12 minutes. McKercher scored the first two goals of the game, the second on the extra-man, to give Nazareth the 2-0 lead with just over three minutes to play in the first quarter. The Golden Flyers finished 2-for-4 on the extra-man.
 
The score was 2-2 after a quarter of play and Western New England scored the next four goals of the second to make it 6-2.
 
Farrington eventually scored with 1:49 on the clock from William O'Neill to bring the score to 6-3 at the half.
 
Nazareth had 14 turnovers and lost 7-of-11 faceoffs in the half. For the game, Nazareth overcame losing 18-of-28 faceoffs. 
 
Reece Wieder, Sean O'Brian and Ben Chaddock each had three ground balls in the win.

The Golden Flyers return to action on Saturday, traveling to Sage for a 1 p.m. contest to open up Empire 8 play.
