PITTSFORD, NY – The Nazareth University Men's Volleyball team, ranked No. 17 in the country, battled hard in the second two sets Friday night but dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 6 St. John Fisher Friday night at Fisher.
The Cardinals (22-3) took an early lead with a 25-16 win in the opening set. Nazareth (15-8) rallied to stay close in the second set and led 21-20 late in the set before St. John Fisher recorded a pair of kills and three blocks for the final five points to take a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead but Nazareth battled all the way back and held a 24-23 lead in the closing minutes of the set. The teams tied the score at 24-24 and 25-25 before St. John Fisher recorded a kill and won the set on an attack error for the 3-0 win.
St. John Fisher won the match 25-16, 25-21, 27-25.
Senior Owen Wickens led Nazareth with 10 kills and junior Josh Weaver added eight kills. Junior Max Stuver handed out 24 assists and led the defense with 10 digs.
Nazareth will travel to Penn State Behrend Saturday for matches against Geneva College and Penn State Behrend before a 14-day break with the next match at home against MIT March. 30.
