Vassar Outlasts Men’s Volleyball in Conference Match

ROCHESTER, NY – After a very close first set, Vassar College rallied for a 3-0 victory pover the Nazareth University Men's Volleyball team Friday night in a United Volleyball Conference match at Kidera Gym.

Vassar, ranked No. 9 in the latest AVCA national poll, won by set scores of 26-24, 25-26 and 25-20 for the 3-0 win.

Nazareth, ranked No. 13 in the nation, was led by juniors Josh Weaver and Max Stuver as each finished with 10 kills to pace the Nazareth (12-5 overall, 0-1 UVC) offense.

A block by sophomore Andrew Bodensteiner and Stuver gave Nazareth a 24-22 lead in the first set but Vassar rallied for four consecutive points to pull out the victory.

The Brewers used a 6-1 run early in the second set to surge ahead and added a 5-0 run later in the set to open a 16-7 lead and cruised to the win.

In the third set, Vassar controlled the play early in the set to build a 9-3 lead but Nazareth battled back to trim the lead to just four points at 20-16. The teams traded points to a 23-19 lead for the Brewers before closing out the win.
