ROCHESTER – Ninth-ranked Nazareth made quick work of Potsdam and Buffalo State Friday, downing each in three sets in a pair of games for the Nazareth Invitational. Nazareth senior
Owen Wickens recorded his 200
th career service ace in the opening match, becoming the first-ever player to hit that mark. He had eight service aces on the day and has 205 for his career. Wickens and
Josh Weaver each had 21 kills on the day over the two matches.
With the wins, Nazareth remains unbeaten at 9-0. Potsdam drops to 3-8, while Buffalo State moves to 5-4.

The Golden Flyers hit an astounding .527 for the match with 35 kills on 55 attempts with just six errors. In the second set, Nazareth hit .688 with 11 kills on 16 attempts and no errors.
In the third set, Wickens delivered his third service ace to push his career total to 200. He stands alone as the service ace leader at Nazareth. Robert Kraft '13 is second with 161. Wickens finished with 11 kills (.625) and four digs.
Weaver hit .538 in the match with nine kills.
Andrew Bodensteiner and
Nathan DeJoy each had four kills. Bodensteiner also chipped in three blocks.
AJ Burda dished on 29 assists.
Nazareth defeats Buffalo State, 25-19, 25-12, 25-20
Nazareth rolled in the opening two sets, including hitting .500 in the second (11 kills – 2 errors – 18 attempts).
In the third, the Bengals came within 20-19 before Nazareth scored five of the next six points to close out the game. Weaver had three of those kills down the stretch on his way to a game-high 12 on a .688 attack percentage.
Wickens delivered 10 kills, five service aces, and six digs in the winning effort.
Burda was good for 27 assists in the match.
Nazareth will have one more match on Saturday, hosting Manhattanville at 11 a.m.
