ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Josh Weaver served six consecutive points in the second set and finished with five kills and 21 assists to lead the Nazareth University Men's Volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Manhattanville Saturday in the Nazareth Invitational Tournament at Kidera Gymnasium.
Nazareth (10-0), ranked No. 9 in the latest AVCA National poll, won the first set easily with a 25-13 victory.
In the second set, Manhattanville (2-6) rallied at the start of the second set and led 10-8 before Weaver moved to the service line. The junior sparked a 6-0 run with a pair of aces and two kills by senior Owen Wickens. Junior Alex Bertino and sophomore Anthony Caimano also had kills for the Golden Flyers in the run that gave Nazareth a 14-10 lead.
Nazareth went on to post a 25-16 win and closed out the match with the first eight points of the third set and eventually a 25-11 win.
Wickens led Nazareth with nine kills and a .800 attack percentage with six aces, three blocks and four digs.
Weaver finished with five kills, 21 assists and four aces while Bertino chipped in eight kills and six digs. Caimano added five kills and three blocks.
The Golden Flyers travel to Baldwin Wallace College next weekend and will face North Central, Baldwin Wallace and Messiah before returning home to open United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play Feb. 21 at home against St. John Fisher.
