ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Olivia Dobrovosky netted 14 points including her 1,000th career point Tuesday night to lead the Nazareth University Women's Basketball team to a convincing 77-41 victory over Keuka College in the final regular season home game of the year.
Dobrovosky, who scored 723 points at SUNY Oneonta before transferring to Nazareth, needed eight points to eclipse the milestone and hit a jumper near the end of the first half for her 1,000th career point. She had six points in the first quarter as the Golden Flyers built an early lead with a commanding 20-4 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Nazareth (21-2 overall, 13-1 Empire 8) remained just one game behind St. John Fisher in the Empire 8 standings and have a rematch with the Cardinals to end the regular season February 17.
Keuka (1-19, 0-12) struggled early and managed to connect on just 7 percent (1-for-14) of its shots from the field in the opening period.
Keuka came back battling in the second quarter draining in three 3-pointers within the first two minutes but Nazareth regained control as Dobrovosky scored the first of two straight baskets with the second accounting for her milestone scoring mark at the 3:09 point in the first half.
Nazareth extended its lead to 33 shooting 50.0% from the floor in the third quarter and closed out the game with a 12-9 advantage in the final period. The Golden Flyers held the Wolves to just 18 points in the second half after Keuka scored 19 in the second quarter.
Kiara Anglin contributed an impressive double-double performance with 13 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Sarina McDowell led all scorers with 19 points and chipped in six rebounds. Sophomore Molly Benetti had 12 points, seven rebounds and three of the school-record tying 12 blocked shots in the game.
The Golden Flyers travel to Houghton Saturday at 2 p.m. for another Empire 8 matchup before finishing the schedule with the road trip to St. John Fisher the following weekend.
