WEBSTER, NY – Senior Ryan Hough was first in a school record time and fellow senior Cameron Fairley was third in the 200-yard freestyle race to lift the Nazareth University Men's Swimming and Diving team to a fifth place team standing after three days of competition at the Allegheny Empire 2024 Championships at the Webster Aquatics Center.
Hartwick (706 points) continues to lead the team standings with Penn State Behrend (677.5) in second followed by Alfred (669), Alfred State (632) and Nazareth (397). Penn State Altoona (391.5) is sixth, Pitt-Bradford (226) is seventh and Wells (2) rounds out the team points.
Hough clocked a personal best with a time of 1:42.65 after qualifying first with a 1:43.80 in the morning session. He smashed the previous school record of 1:44.09 set by Fairley in 2023. Fairley swam nearly an identical time as his preliminary finish and was third in 1:45.35.
In the "B" Final of the 200, freshman Gianluca Antonini was 17th in 1:51.65.
Hough also swam the anchor leg of the 400-yard medley relay as Nazareth placed sixth with a time of 3:37.26. Senior Kai D'Alessandro, freshman Carl Parsons and freshman Jackson Gerbes teamed with Hough in the relay. The Naz "B" relay with Fairley, sophomore Sam Romanosky, junior Adam DelGrand and junior William Danaher placed 14th in 3:40.82.
Parsons added a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.73 while Romanosky was 12th in the event with a 1:00.56.
D'Alessandro was eighth in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:19.12 while Parsons was second in the "B" Final of the event with a 4:27.49.
Danaher was 10th, Gerbes 11th and DelGrand 14th in the 100-yard butterfly for Nazareth.
Senior Aidan Quinn, sophomore Jack Bordeau and freshman Andy Zimmerman rounded out the Nazareth finishers as the trio placed 17th, 18th and 19th in the 100-yard backstroke.
The competition concludes Saturday with the team championships and all special awards handed out at the end of the racing schedule.
