ROCHESTER, N.Y. - After a slow start on Tuesday night, men's hockey defeated Buffalo State by a wide margin, with a final score of 7-3 in favor of the Golden Flyers. Seven different players scored goals for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers are now 3-3-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference play.
The first period started off slow scoring wise, neither team finding the back of the net until Buffalo State snuck one past
Lincoln Crosby around 12 and a half minutes into the game. Two minutes later Buffalo State scored again, gaining all of the momentum heading into the second period.
Though Nazareth did not score in the first period, they were not rattled, and came out of intermission with a goal by
Antoine Lucier in just over a minute of game play, assisted by
Blake Frost and
Logan Tobias.
Down 2-1, Nazareth continued to trade missed shots with the Bengals until
Ethan Louisos put one past the Bengals' goalie off of assists from
Liam Quinlivan and
Josh Dressler at the 8:58 minute mark. From there, the flood gates opened up for the Golden Flyers.
At 12:20,
Griffin Green scored unassisted, followed by another goal three minutes later by
Logan Tobias from Frost and Lucier. Two minutes after that,
Liam Quinlivan scored off of a pass from
Josh Dressler to put the Golden Flyers up 5-2. With only 10 seconds left in the second period, Nazareth drew a power play that continued to the third.
In the third period, at the end of the power play,
Charles Ross scored a goal from Dressler to give Nazareth a comfortable 6-2 lead. 12 and a half minutes into the third period, Buff State drew two penalties and went on a power play up two players, where they scored their third goal.
Still on a power play, Buffalo State continued to attack Nazareth's net. Within the two minutes Nazareth served in the box, goalie
Lincoln Crosby had six saves to help hold the Bengals to only three goals, even when the Bengals pulled its goalie and were up in numbers by two.
With less than four minutes left in the game,
Lucas Stanojevic scored on an empty net to set the final score of 7-3.
Crosby finished the game with 23 total saves.
The Golden Flyers will be back on the ice on December 6th at 7 p.m. for an Empire 8 match-up at SUNY Brockport.
