ROCHESTER, NY - The Nazareth men's lacrosse team won its third NCAA Division III Championship on May 25, 1997, with a 15-14 overtime victory over Washington (Md.) in front of 18,086 fans at Bryd Stadium in College Park, MD.
Junior midfielder Ryan McDermott scored just :30 seconds into overtime to lift the Golden Flyers to the title.
Trent Brown finished the game with five goals and two assists, while Brent Rothfuss added four goals and two assists. Joe Spada added two goals and one assist and Dennis Folley poured in two goals.
Jake Coon made 13 saves in the win.
Nazareth finished the year 13-3.
