Women's Volleyball Drops Both Games in Tri-Match at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – Nazareth women's volleyball dropped both games at William Smith Tri-Match against Union and William Smith.
 
Nazareth is now 15–11 overall and 10–1 in conference play.
 
Vs Union – L, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-14)
In the first set, Union strung together an early run to jump to a 6-1 lead. Later on, another run gave Union a 14-4 lead. Though Nazareth was able to cut the lead down to four late in the game, they were never able to bridge that gap, and the set concluded at a score of 25-19 in favor of Union.
 
The second set was similar, this time Union jumping to a 9-1 lead. Another four-point run for Union later created a deficit that the Golden Flyers were not able to come back from and Nazareth dropped the set 25-11.
 
The third set started out more back and forth, but down 6-4, the Golden Flyers allowed Union to go on a six-point scoring run to create another large gap. Nazareth dropped the final set to Union by 11 points.
 
Against Union, Alana Lucey led the team in kills with six, followed by Ruth Jackson and Tessa Grover who both had four. Grover led in assists with 16, while Jenna Mattison and Zoe Tylipakis added three and two respectively. Grover also led in digs, while Tylipakis and Mattison added eight and seven.
 
Vs William Smith – L, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-16)
The first set started as a close match, but up 15-12, the Herons went on a four-point run to give themselves a healthy late lead. Nazareth was unable to string together any runs that lasted more than two points, and the first set ended in favor of William Smith 25-16.
 
In the second set, the Herons jumped out to a 5-1 win and Nazareth once again could not string together more than two points at a time. Up 21-16, William Smith had four kills in a row to end the set at a score of 25-16.
 
The final set was much more interesting, as it was close in the beginning, Nazareth even tying six times and leading twice. However, in the middle of the set, William Smith had a four-point run to extend their lead to six, and the Golden Flyers were unable to recover. The final set also ended at a score of 25-16.
 
Against William Smith, Grover and Fusilli tallied five kills, while Tylipakis had four. Hailey Trank led in assists with 10, while Grover added seven. Grover led in digs with 10, while Mattison and Fusilli each added six.
 
The Golden Flyers will play in another Tri-Match at Ithaca on November 9th at 2:30 against Cortland and 5 p.m. against Ithaca for the last two games before playoffs.
