Women's Volleyball Drops Both Games in Last Regular Season Competitions

GENEVA, N.Y. – Nazareth women's volleyball dropped both games at the Ithaca Tri-Match against Cortland and Ithaca.

Nazareth is now 15–13 overall and 10–1 in conference play.

Vs Cortland – L, 3-1 (13-25, 25-22, 12-25, 22-25)
In the first set, Cortland took control from the get-go, starting with a 6-0 run. After trading some points back and forth, Cortland went on another run late in the game to extend the lead to 20-6. The Golden Flyers were not able to recover from the deficit and Nazareth dropped the set 13-25.

The second set was much more evenly matched, as the two teams traded points back and forth. Up 11-10, Nazareth went on a six-point run including kills from Alana Lucey, Tessa Grover, and Zoe Tylipakis, as well as some service aces from Jenna Mattison. Cortland could not find a way to close the gap, and the Golden Flyers took the second set 25-22.

The third set was very close until Cortland (up 10-8) went on a 12 point run to just about seal the third-set win. Nazareth could not rebound and dropped the set 12-25.

In the fourth set, Nazareth was down 14-12, when Ruth Jackson and Leah Fusilli added kills within five consecutive Golden Flyer points, to give Naz a 16-14 lead. Later, Nazareth was up 22-19, when Cortland was able to string together six points in a row to close the set and the game.

Against Cortland, Grover led the offense with kills, tallying 17, while Jackson and Fusilli contributed seven and six respectively. Ella Kules led Nazareth in assists with 21, followed by Grover with 10, and Mattison with five. Mattison led the defense with 19 digs, while Fusilli and Grover added 10 and nine.

Vs Ithaca – L, 3-0 (17-25, 15-25, 17-25))
The first set started as a close match, but up 16-12, Ithaca went on a six-point run to earn a large late lead that the Golden Flyers did not have time to come back from. Nazareth dropped the set 17-25.

The second set was very similar, as it was back and forth to begin. However more runs from Ithaca allowed the bombers to really pull away late in the set. Up 20-15, Ithaca scored five consecutive points to close out the set with a 10 point margin.

Ithaca stayed true to itself in the final set, as the Bombers once again had a few late runs that helped to put the game away. At a tie game of 9-9, Fusilli was able to add a service ace in a three-point run for the Flyers, for Naz to take the lead 12-9. However, Ithaca strung together two four-point runs that were broken up by one Naz point to regain a strong lead. At a score of 18-16 in favor of the Bombers, Ithaca put together seven points, only broken up by one kill from Fusilli to close out the game.

Against the Bombers, Grover, Jackson, and Fusilli led the team in kills with six, four, and four. Kules once again led in assists with eight, followed by Grover with seven, and Madison Wethje with two. Grover also led in digs with 13, while Tylipakis and Kules added nine and six.

The Golden Flyers have now closed out regular season games and will next host the Empire 8 Quarterfinal Round at 6 p.m. on November 12th.
