RYE, NY - Sophomores
Allie Zack and
Meredith Boettcher each scored twice as the Nazareth women's hockey team delivered a 5-0 victory over Manhattanville University Friday night to open up UCHC play.
Nazareth is now 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in the UCHC, while Manhattanville is 0-3 overall and 0-1, respectively.
The scoring opened within the first :38 seconds of the game and didn't stop. Boettcher scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Sophia Pittis.
The next two goals were scored by
Corsica Skibinski and Zack, with both assists coming from Abby Flannigan. Skibinski scored 7:29 into the first period with help from
Brooke Judkiewicz and Flannigan. At 13:38 into the first period, Zack made good with a power play with help from Flannigan and
Nikki Sharp.
Nazareth entered the second period with a 3-0 lead.
During the second period the Golden Flyers offense applied pressure to Manhattanville's defensive zone. But despite the 55 shots in the second period, Nazareth couldn't put anything away.
After a quiet second period, Zack had a goal at 16:46 in the third period. She scored with a shot from the point off a rebound which pushed the lead 4-0. Judkiewicz and Pittis assisted Zack.
A minute later, at 15:50 in the third period, Boettcher capped the scoring with a shot off another rebound. The goal was assisted by
Brooke Terry and
Alexis Kindred.
Nazareth outshot Manhattanville 89-20 and senior
McKinley Hoff recorded the win with her second shutout of the season and her 24th career shutout.
The same two teams will wrap up the weekend series at 2 p.m. Saturday.
