RYE, NY – Freshman
Amy Laskowski scored her first-career goal and was one of four goal scorers in the 4-0 shutout victory against Manhattanville University on Saturday to complete the weekend sweep for the women's hockey team.
The Valiants now stand 0-4-0 (0-2-0 UCHC) on the season, while the Golden Flyers rise to 3-1-0 (2-0-0 UCHC).
The game remained scoreless through the first two periods, with Naz leading 11-1 in shots on goal at the end of the first period, and 30-3 by the second intermission. Manhattanville were able to keep the game close by winning 43% of faceoffs and leading blocked shots 13-3 by the end of the second period.
Fortunately for the Golden Flyers, they came back from the break with an outburst of offense at the start of the third period, with the first two goals coming within a minute of each other. Freshman
Brooke Terry scored her second goal of the season at even strength, with sophomore
Allie Zack credited for the assist. :40 seconds later, senior captain
Sydney Swanson scored her first goal of the season, with the assist coming from her defensive-partner, graduate student
Sami Quackenbush.
The offense kept rolling for Naz, as Laskowksi netted her goal just four minutes later, with assists from graduate student
Julia Holmes and fellow first year
Madison Santora, who gained her first collegiate point off the goal.
Junior
Abby Flanagan closed out the scoring with her third goal of the season and the assist was credited to classmate
Corsica Skibinski.
The Golden Flyers are home next Friday, 11/22, for the start of a home-and-home series against Utica University; puck drop will be 6:30 p.m. at the Tim Horton's Iceplex.
