ROCHESTER, NY –
Ella Cedrone scored the first two goals of the game and the Nazareth women's hockey team handed #6 Utica a 4-1 loss on Friday night at Tim Horton's Iceplex.
Allie Zack and
Alexis Jones also scored for the hosts.
Nazareth moves to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in UCHC play, while Utica falls to 6-1 and 2-1, respectively.
The dominance for Nazareth over Utica continued on Friday as the Golden Flyers now hold a 14-1-1 record all-time against the Pioneers.
The game started a bit slow as each team eased their way into the contest. Cedrone had a great individual effort to get the Golden Flyers on the board first. She picked off the puck in the Flyers defensive zone, skated through the neutral zone, and fired a shot that deflected off a Pioneer stick and into the net. It was 1-0 at the break.
Nazareth took control of the game in the second period, adding two more goals. Cedrone netted her second of the day with 13:04 left in the period. Zack ripped a shot that was blocked and Cedrone one-timed the puck into the net to make it 2-0. With 3:39 left in the period, Zack got on the board herself as Sophia Pittis squirted the puck out to the point for a rip into the top shelf.
Utica had a strong showing in the third period, breaking through just :46 into the period. The score remained that way until under :50 seconds remaining when Jones buried an empty net goal from
Meredith Boettcher.
McKinley Hoff was sharp all night, making 22 stops.
Nazareth and the Pioneers square off on Saturday at Utica with a 2 p.m. puck drop.
