ALFRED, N.Y. – Women's volleyball lost the last conference game of the season on Friday night, giving up its perfect conference record to Alfred University 3-1.

Nazareth's record is now 15-9 overall and 10-1 in conference play as volleyball heads into a stretch of non-conference competitions before playoffs begin.

In the first set, after being down 4-5, Nazareth went on an eight-point run to gain a seven-point lead over Alfred. This run included kills from
Tessa Grover and
Zoe Tylipakis, as well as aces from
Jenna Mattison. The Saxons were not able to close the gap, and Nazareth controlled the rest of the set. The set concluded at a score of 25-18 in favor of the Golden Flyers.

The second set was a true battle until the end, neither team holding more than a four-point lead at a time. Down 22-23, Alfred put together three points in a row, including two kills and an ace to give the Saxons the second set at a score of 25-23.

Alfred controlled the third set from the beginning, not allowing the Golden Flyers to lead at any point. Though Nazareth was able to string together a few runs here and there, the Saxons did not allow the Golden Flyers to score more than four in a row, and they were unable to recover from an early deficit. The Saxons won the third set 25-19.

The final set was similar to the third in that the Saxons had control. Though Nazareth was able to create an early tie of 5-5, they were not able to take the lead. Late in the game, the Golden Flyers were able to cut the lead to 22-20, but two errors and an Alfred kill gave the game to the Saxons, the final set ending at a score of 25-20.

Tylipakis led the team in kills with 11, followed closely behind by
Ruth Jackson and
Leah Fusilli who had 10 and eight respectively. Grover led in assists with 31, while Mattison added five, and
Anna Malbone tallied three. Tylipakis also led the defense with 17 digs, along with Mattison who had 12 and Fusilli who had 10.

The Golden Flyers will compete again on November 2
nd in a tri match against Union at 2 p.m. and William Smith at 4 p.m. at William Smith College.
