Grover Earns Third-Straight Triple Double While Naz Stays Perfect in Conference Play

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers won another four-set-match in conference play Saturday afternoon against Hartwick (23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17). Tessa Grover earned her third straight triple double.
 
Nazareth is now 9-8 overall, and 4-0 in conference play.
 
In the first set, Hartwick jumped out to an early 9-3 lead. Though the Golden Flyers closed the gap at 18-18, they were not able to overtake the Hawks, and Hartwick took the set 25-23.
 
The second set had more back and forth, with two lead changes and six tie scores. Nazareth was able to separate themselves from the Hawks with a four-point-run midway through the set including kills from Ruth Jackson, Zipporah Sparkman, and Zoe Tylipakis, all from Grover, to give the Golden Flyers a six-point lead (17-11). The Hawks were not able to recover from the deficit and the set closed at a score of 25-19 in favor of Nazareth.
 
The third set was very similar to the second with seven tie scores and two lead changes. At a score of 18-18, Nazareth went on a three-point run including a kill from Grover. Following a service error, the Golden Flyers went on another three point run with Tylipakis earning all three points (one kill and two service aces), to force set point. Nazareth took the set 25-21.
 
Nazareth commanded most of the fourth set, opening with seven straight points after a Hartwick kill to start the set with a 7-1 score. The Hawks closed the gap at 12-12, but Nazareth pulled ahead again with multiple runs, forcing a 21-14 score. Hartwick tried to fight back, but at a score of 21-17 Nazareth took back control of the set and earned the final four points of the set consecutively including two kills from Leah Fusilli and one from Jackson. The final set concluded in favor of the Golden Flyers 25-17.
 
Grover's triple double consisted of 15 kills, 19 assists, and 12 digs. Fusilli added a total of 12 kills, while Jackson added six. Ella Kules led the team in assists with 21, while Jenna Mattison led in digs with 15. Tylipakis added 12 digs.
 
Nazareth will be back at home on October 18th for a 6 p.m. conference match against Elmira.
