HOUGHTON, NY – The Nazareth women's tennis team won a convincing 9-0 contest over Houghton on Saturday to secure the third seed for next week's Empire 8 Championship. Nazareth will host Brockport on Tuesday in the quarterfinals with a time TBA. The Golden Flyers defeated the Golden Eagles 7-2 during the regular season.
With the win, the Golden Flyers move to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in league play.
Hartwick will be the top overall seed (8-0), followed by Geneseo (7-1), Nazareth (6-2), Sage (5-3), St. John Fisher (4-4), and Brockport (3-5). Hartwick and Geneseo have earned first round byes to the semifinals.
Catherine Zak and
Kenna Ellis (first doubles) and
Anna Spencer, along with
Victoria Cioni (third doubles) each won 8-2.
Ali Klee and
Sarah Stone were victorious at second doubles 8-6.
Each singles match was won handily by the Golden Flyers.
