Grover Earns Another Triple-Double in Another Conference Win Against Sage

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Golden Flyers won an exciting four-set match on Friday at home against Sage. Tessa Grover earned herself another triple double.

The Golden Flyers now hold a record of 8-8 overall, 3-0 in conference play.

In the first set, Nazareth earned the first point of the game, and did not allow for any lead changes. A 5-point run in the middle of the set made up by kills from Grover and Alana Lucey, a service ace from Leah Fusilli, and two Sage errors allowed for the Golden Flyers to widen their lead to 14-7. Sage was not able to recover from this deficit, and Nazareth took the set 25-17.

The second set was much more back-and-forth, with five ties and three lead changes. Down 14-8, the Golden Flyers went on a six-point run to tie up the set. Sage scored a point off of a Nazareth error, and the Golden Flyers were not able to close that gap for the remainder of the set, and the set concluded at a score of 25-22 in favor of the Gators.

The third set was similar in its back-and-forth nature with eight ties throughout the set. Nazareth held on to a one-point-lead until the middle of the set, when Sage upped the Golden Flyers 15-14. At a late tie of 20-20, Nazareth went on a four-point-run to force set point, including a kill from Ruth Jackson, a service ace from Zoe Tylipakis, and two Sage errors. The set ended at a score of 25-21 in favor of the Golden Flyers. Tessa Grover earned her triple double in the third set with 12 kills, 13 assists, and 11 digs within the first three sets of the game.

The fourth and final set was the closest and most exciting of all. Nazareth held a late lead of 16-9 over Sage, but the Gators closed the gap and overtook Nazareth 21-19. Two kills by Jackson from Grover, an ace from Tylipakis, and an error from the Gators allowed Nazareth to come back 23-21. The Golden Flyers closed the final two points with another Jackson kill and an ace from Hailey Trank. The set concluded at a score of 25-22 Nazareth.

Grover earned her triple double, finishing with 17 kills, 18 assists, and 12 digs. Tylipakis added on to the offensive efforts with eight kills, followed by Jackson with seven. Ella Kules earned herself 19 assists, and Lucey had a whopping eight blocks. Jenna Mattison and Fusilli added 15 and 14 digs respectively.

The Golden Flyers will compete again on Saturday, October 12th, at 2 p.m. for another conference match against Hartwick.
