ELMIRA, NY – Junior Tessa Grover recorded her fifth triple-double of the season with 14 kills, 17 assists and 13 digs to lead the Nazareth University Women's Volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Elmira for a road Empire 8 victory Friday night.
Grover leads the country in triple-doubles after being tied with three others with four each heading into Friday's matches. She completed the task early in the third set with an assist on a kill by sophomore Leah Fusilli that made the score 5-5.
Nazareth (4-9 overall, 1-0 Empire 8) took a lead late in the final set but Elmira (6-9, 0-1 E8) rallied late to knot the score at 21-21.
Senior Jillian Panek connected on a kill to regain the lead for Nazareth and junior Ella Kules added an ace for the 23-21 lead before a Fusilli kill gave Nazareth match point. An attack error by Elmira ended the set and the match as Nazareth scored the final four points of the set.
Grover was amazing with her 14 kills and a .619 attack percentage with just one error on 21 swings.
Fusilli finished with nine kills and eight digs, Kules had 22 assists and four aces and sophomore Jenna Mattison had nine digs.
Nazareth continues Empire 8 action Saturday against Alfred with a 1 p.m. match in Kidera Gymnasium.
