CANTON, NY – St. Lawrence University scored the first five goals of the game and eight of the first nine to jump out to an early lead and handed the Nazareth Women's Lacrosse team a 21-8 loss Tuesday afternoon on North Country Field.
After St. Lawrence (8-6) scored the first five goals in the first quarter, senior Emma States snapped the run with the first of her team-leading four goals on the day and the first period ended with the Saints holding a 5-1 lead.
SLU added three goals to start the second quarter to extend the lead before freshman Makenna Misiurewicz scored with an assist from States.
The teams traded goals over the next several minutes with States adding two more to her scoring total and senior Reva Mussi scoring with an assist from fellow senior Maren Wallace.
The Saints added two late goals to take a 13-5 lead into the halftime intermission.
Senior Annie Rubel scored to start the second half with a pass from sophomore Grace Seither.
St. Lawrence scored two more times before States cored her fourth goal of the day to make it a 15-7 with 5:48 left in the third period.
The Saints scored two more to take a 10-goal lead and added another with less than 20 seconds let in the quarter for an 18-7 lead before the start of the fourth quarter.
With the clock running, St. Lawrence added three goals before senior Maggie Vay scored in the closing minutes of the game with an assist from States for the final score.
States finished with six points on four goals and two assist. Freshman Allie Klestinec and sophomore Tori Henchen shared time in the Nazareth goal and combined to make 11 saves.
Nazareth will close out the regular season at Russell Sage Saturday with a 4 p.m. game and then play in the Empire 8 Tournament beginning Wednesday, May 3.
