ROCHESTER, NY – The Nazareth women's lacrosse team scored the last three goals of the game, including the game-winner from senior
Maren Wallace with :44 seconds remaining to lead the Golden Flyers to a thrilling 13-12 victory Thursday night. Wallace finished with a hat trick, while
Kate Metzler (2G, 2A) and
Emma States (3G, 1A) each contributed four points in the win.
With the victory, Nazareth improves to 3-5 on the season, while Brockport drops to 1-5.
After trailing for most of the game, Nazareth held the Golden Eagles scoreless for the final 13:41 and scored the game's final three goals to earn the non-conference win.
Reva Mussi scored on the free position to pull within one goal before
Julia Dietz scored her second of the day with 6:14 remaining to tie the game. That set up for the dramatic ending with a turnover from Brockport with under two minutes to play giving the ball to the home team. Nazareth used some of the clock and Wallace beat her defender off a pick to fire home the game-winning goal. She is second on the team with 12 goals this season.
The Golden Flyers scored the first goal of the game when Metzler found Wallace 2:34 in.
Brockport then scored six of the next eight goals of the contest and led by three with 11 minutes left in the second quarter.
Metzler, who twice in the half, found the back of the net at the 9:25 mark and had her goal followed up by an unassisted tally from Mussi. That made it 6-5.
Brockport scored the final two goals of the half to take an 8-5 lead into the break.
After Nazareth's top scorer on the year,
Emma States, was held scoreless in the opening 30 minutes, she scored twice in the first 2:25 of the third to draw Nazareth within 8-7.
Trailing 11-8, Wallace and States scored back-to-back goals to draw within 11-10. Brockport found the net once more before the Golden Flyers defense locked down for the rest of the game.

Allie Klestinec played the first half, making four saves and allowing eight goals.
Tori Henchen played the second, making one save and allowing four goals.
Nazareth opens up Empire 8 play on Saturday, traveling to Utica for a 12 p.m. contest.
