Wickens, Bertino and Stuver Lead Men’s Volleyball Past Lasell

THOUSAND OAKs, CA – Junior Owen Wickens recorded 20 kills while senior Max Stuver and sophomore Alex Bertino added nine kills each to lead the Nazareth Men's Volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Lasell Friday afternoon in the first of five matches in California.

No. 13 Nazareth (17-5) won the first two sets by the same 25-23 score and then finished the match with a 25-21 in the third set. Wickens led a balanced attack as he finished with seven kills in each of the first two sets including kills in four of the final five Nazareth points in the second set. He then added six more in the final set for the Golden Flyers win.

Stuver and Bertino had nine kills each and each player had over a .300 attack percentage with Bertino hitting a .333 and Stuver putting in a .313.

Senior Trent Caviness handed out 37 assists and defensively, Wickens and senior Seth Terzo had eight digs each.

The win over Lasell was the third in the last four meetings between the two teams and the third straight win overall for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers will face Cal Santa Cruz and St. Norbert Saturday before finishing the California trip with a Monday match against Cal Lutheran.
