CHICOPEE, MA – Graduate student Jonathon Jackson had a team-leading 15 digs and senior Nathan Allen added six kills to lead the No. 12 Nazareth Men's Volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Elms College Saturday. The win give head coach Cal Wickens a grand total of 800 career victories with his combined total with women's and men's volleyball at Nazareth.
Nazareth (16-5) struggled to win the first set but escaped with a 28-26 win and then completed the 3-0 sweep with wins of 25-13 and 25-12 in the final two sets.
Jackson led the defense with his 15 digs while junior Owen Wickens contributed a solid day with 10 kills (.304 attack pct.), 22 assists, three blocks and six digs.
Allen combined with sophomores Max Stuver and Josh Weaver for 22 kills as All had six, Stuver added seven with a .313 percentage and Weaver collected nine and an impressive .533 percentage. Fellow sophomore Alex Bertino had a team-best five aces and four kills with a .300 percentage.
Nazareth finished the day with a .291 team attack percentage with 45 kills and just 15 errors while Elms (3-13) had 18 kills and 16 errors (.024). The Golden Flyers also collected nine aces, 41 assists and 45 digs.
The Golden Flyers will travel to California for the next four matches against Lasell, Cal-Santa Cruz, St. Norbert and Cal-Lutheran during the spring break recess.
