Nazareth Women's Basketball fell 78-68 against Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher ending their six-game win streak as a cold spell in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference. Freshman Katie MacLachlan led the charge for the Golden Flyers with a season-high 16 points.
Nazareth dropped to 17-6 overall and 13-3 in conference play, while the Cardinals improved to 21-2 and 16-0 in E8 play. The Empire 8's top two teams traded leads 13 times in the contest.
A pair of free-throws by freshman Brielle Reidinger with 6:40 to go gave the Golden Flyers their largest lead of the second half, 61-53. The Cardinals converted their next two shots to cut the game to 61-57 before MacLachlan sank a three for Nazareth.
A jumper by Reidinger kept the Golden Flyers up by seven points, 66-57, with 4:31 in the fourth quarter. But the Cardinals used a 14-0 to pull ahead and finished the game 16-of-17 from the free throw line to close out the game.
Nazareth built a 15-point lead with a furious start to the second quarter. Freshman Kiara Anglin converted an and one three point play to start the quarter before a trio of baskets by graduate student Caley Cornwell and MacLachlan pushed the Golden Flyers ahead 26-11. A converted jumper by Cornwell dished by MacLachlan closed the scoring in the first half, 30-25.
The Golden Flyers and Cardinals traded leads six times in the third quarter. Anglin assisted on a basket by Cornwell which gave Nazareth a 53-48 edge heading into the fourth.
Four Golden Flyers reached double figure scoring totals: MacLachlan (16), Anglin (13), senior Jadyn Abrams (11), and Cornwell (10). Anglin and Cornwell helped lead Nazareth's bench to outscore Fisher's bench 23-10.
Nazareth hits the road for Empire 8 action starting with Hartwick on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before Russel Sage on Saturday at 2 p.m.
