ROCHESTER, NY – A solid defensive effort was not enough for the Nazareth University Women's Volleyball team as the Golden Flyers had a four-match win streak snapped with a 3-0 loss at home to St. John Fisher.
The Cardinals (8-8 overall, 3-0 Empire 8) won by set scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-17.
Sophomores Leah Fusilli and Jenna Mattison led the Nazareth defense with 16 digs each and fellow sophomore Zipporah Sparkman had three blocks to lead the Golden Flyers (5-10 overall, 2-1 Empire 8).
Junior Tessa Grover had nine kills, nine digs and eight assists, Fusilli added eight kills and junior Ella Kules led Nazareth with 16 assists.
Nazareth had led early in both the first and second sets, but the Cardinals rallied and put together long runs midway through each of the first two sets with a 9-1 run in the first set and a 13-3 run in the second set to build late leads.
Nazareth will face RIT and St. Lawrence Saturday in a tri-match at RIT. The St. Lawrence match is set for 4:30 and the RIT match has a 7 p.m. scheduled start.
