ROCHESTER, NY – Senior
Kaleb Luton was the highest finisher for Nazareth on Saturday at the Conference Challenge Cup, taking second in the 60-meter hurdles. The Conference Challenge Cup consisted of 10 teams and five conferences, the Empire 8 (Nazareth and St. John Fisher), the Landmark (Susquehanna and Scranton), the Liberty League (Ithaca and U of R), the SUNYAC (Cortland and Genseseo), and the MAC (Misericorida and Stevens) teamed up to compete against one another. The SUNYAC collected 263 points, followed by the Liberty League (223), Landmark (52), MAC (50) and Empire 8 (49).
Luton improved on his time from a week ago in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.21, which earned him second place.
Sophomore
Cade Eells also registered a regional qualifying time of 8:39.06 in the 3,000-meter run for sixth place, breaking the previous Nazareth school record of 8:40.41, set by Brandon Epstein in 2008.
Nazareth had some strong showings in both the individual 400 and the 4 x 400-meter relay.
Mike Welch and
Michael Puglisi were sixth and seventh in the 400 with times of 51.50 and 51.62, respectively. They paired up with
Gavin McAllister and Ben Lewis to take third in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3:28.04).
Williams was Nazareth's top finisher in the mile, coming in 18
th place with a clocked time of 4:43.62.
Lucas Sharron (4:52.81) was 22nd, followed by
Antonio Benitez (4:53.02) in 23
rd.
Williams, Sharron,
Noah Engel and
Patrick Healy finished second in the distance medley relay of three teams in a time of 11:04.37.
McAllister was able to earn 17
th place in the 800-meter dash in a time of 2:01.87.
Freshman
Ryan DeShane garnered 11
th place in the triple jump with a mark of 12.39 meters (40 feet, 7 ¾ inches).
In field action,
Josh Pomerleau jumped 4.10 meters (13 feet, 5 ¼ inches) to take ninth place.
Nazareth returns to action next Friday at the RIT Invitational.
