Women’s Hockey Drops Overtime Thriller

PINE VALLEY, NY – In a battle of two nationally-ranked teams, the Nazareth Women's Hockey team, ranked #12 in the country, fell in overtime to #11 Elmira Saturday afternoon on the road.

Elmira (14-5-0 overall) scored goals in each of the first two periods to take a 2-0 lead but a goal by graduate student Abbey Luth with 6:03 left in the second period cut the lead in half and started the Nazareth (13-4-0) comeback.

The Luth goal came in the fourth power play of the game for the Golden Flyers with freshman Emili Haratani and senior Ally Watrous picking up assists on the play.

Early in the third period, graduate student Gabriella DeMeo scored her first goal of the season to tie the game. Watrous was credited with her second assist of the game on the play.

Elmira ended the game late in the overtime period with a goal with just :42 seconds left in the five-minute extra period.

The loss is just the third of the season for the Golden Flyers with all three losses on the road and two coming against nationally ranked opponents.

Nazareth returns to United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action Friday and Saturday with a road series at Manhattanville.
