Women's Hockey Falls to No. 6 Hamilton, 4-1

CLINTON, NY – Freshman Abby Flanagan netted her team-leading 11th goal of the season, as 13th-ranked Nazareth dropped a 4-1 decision on Tuesday night at No. 6 Hamilton College.  Flanagan is the top goal-scoring freshman in the country with 11 and is tied for 12th among all division III scorers.

With the loss, Nazareth drops to 11-3 overall, while Hamilton improves to 10-2.

The Continentals struck first with under seven minutes remaining in the opening period, only to have the Golden Flyers even the score shortly after. It was the first goal that MaÏka Paquin has surrendered this season, a streak spanning five games and over 250 minutes of action.

Nazareth evened the score at one apiece with Kate Cascio beginning a well-executed breakout that led to converting a 2-on-1 opportunity. Makenna Wiljanen streaked down the boards, flipping a pass to Flanagan for a shot in tight that was saved and then jammed in for the goal.

In the second period, Hamilton re-gained its lead at the 11:35 mark and kept that margin into the third.

The Continentals offense was able to add a pair of goals in the final period to wrap up the non-conference win. For the game, Hamilton held a 34-27 edge in shots. Abbey Luth and Ally Watrous tallied four shots apiece.

Paquin made a career-high 30 saves between the pipes in the loss.

The Golden Flyers will have their fourth game in eight days on Friday, traveling to Arcadia for a 7:30 pm contest on Friday.
