POTSDAM, NY – After a pair of consecutive victories including a 3-1 victory of Lasell College, the Nazareth Volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Middlebury to finish the day with an even 1-1 record but capped the North Country Tournament with its first two wins of the season.
Nazareth (2-4) downed Lasell by set scores of 25-18, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-23. Against Middlebury, the Panthers won by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-17.
In the first match of the day against Lasell at St. Lawrence University, the Golden Flyers were led by freshman Rylie Loomis who notched 13 kills with a team-leading 38 swings. Sophomore Tessa Grover handed out 29 assists and added five kills, five digs, six blocks and three aces. Freshman Jenna Mattison led the defense with 18 digs while senior Kaylee Kelly chipped in nine kills, two aces and 13 digs.
In the Middlebury match played at Clarkson University, Kelly led the offense with eight kills, Grover had 15 assists and the duo combined for four aces. Kelly added a team-leading eight digs and Grover chopped in seven.
Nazareth will play its first midweek match Wednesday at Buffalo State and then will face Geneseo, Lasell and Penn State Behrend at the RIT Invitational over the weekend.
