Fisher overwhelms Nazareth to take E8 title, 30-11

Golden Flyers complete 2022 season at 9-8 overall

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Top-seeded and fifth-ranked St. John Fisher displayed its might Saturday in the Empire 8 Conference championship game for men's lacrosse as the Cardinals dominated the Golden Flyers from start to finish in a 30-11 victory at Growney Stadium.

Nazareth entered the game with much optimism that was fueled by a six-game winning streak, but that came to a grinding halt as Fisher gained the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament and improved to 15-2 overall. Nazareth finished its season at 9-8 overall.

Brett Randall had three goals and two assists for Nazareth and completed the season with exactly 100 points (55g, 45a) as the Golden Flyers' leading scorer. Jeremy Jacob also scored three times and Peter Schwab and Jon Roth each scored twice. Quinn McKercher also had a goal.

Possession was especially difficult to come by for Nazareth as Fisher won 30 of 44 face-offs and scored 10 times in the first quarter and seven more times in the second.

The Cardinals scored just nine seconds into the game and the count was 8-0 before nine minutes had elapsed and Nazareth didn't recover. Among the other lopsided numbers was a 70-34 differential in shots, a 52-35 margin in ground balls and five extra-man goals in seven attempts.

Nazareth finally got on the scoreboard with 5:14 left in the first quarter as Roth finished off a man-up pass from Randall. Jacob and Randall had goals in the second, but Fisher's lead was 17-3.

The third quarter included another man-up goal for Roth as well as unassisted tallies for Jacob and Randall. Schwab scored both of his goals late in the fourth quarter and assisted on a goal by Jacob. Randall and Quinn McKercher also scored.

Eric Almquist played the first half in goal and registered 11 saves. Carson Pickeral had four saves in the second half. Matt Keane had 12 face-off wins and six ground balls.
