PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- St. John Fisher rallied from an early deficit to outscore Nazareth Saturday in an Empire 8 women's lacrosse game. The Cardinals, ranked 24th nationally in Division III, won 10-7 in a game played at Growney Stadium.
Despite three goals and one assist from
Emma States, Nazareth dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in conference games. Fisher is 3-6 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8.
States' four points enabled her to surpass 100 points in career scoring. She leads the Golden Flyers in 2022 with 32 points on 25 goals and seven assists. Her career point total stands at 103 with 81 goals and 22 assists.
States had an unassisted tally with 8:17 left in the opening period to give Nazareth a 1-0 advantage. Fisher tied the score five minutes later and went on to score two more times before quarter's end and never trailed thereafter.
Nazareth stayed close as
Maren Wallace scored on a free-position shot to open the second quarter. States scored again later in the quarter and then assisted on Wallace's second goal, but Nazareth still trailed at halftime, 6-4.
Third-period goals by States and
Emma Robinson brought Nazareth within 7-6, but Fisher pulled away for good with three more goals.
Reva Mussi closed out the scoring for Nazaeth with less than three minutes to play.
Fisher had advantages in shots (28-19), ground balls (20-16) and draw controls.
Emma Prosak made her second straight start in goal for the Golden Flyers and produced 12 saves.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Wednesday with a home game against Keuka at 5 p.m.
