Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Nationally Ranked St. Lawrence

ROCHESTER, NY – A pair of long scoring runs for St. Lawrence University gave the Saints a 16-7 victory over Nazareth Friday afternoon in a non-conference game on the Nazareth Lacrosse Players Association Field.

The Saints, ranked 15th in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll, surrendered the first goal of the game as junior Greg Bilek scored to give the Golden Flyers (1-3) an early lead.

St. Lawrence then scored the next nine goals.

Graduate student Brett Randall scored late in the second half to stop the run and fellow graduate student Jeremy Jacob scored two minutes later to make it a 9-3 game.

A late goal by the Saints extended the lead to 10-3 at the halftime break.

The goal started another run that continued into the fourth quarter as St. Lawrence netted six straight goals to push the lead to 15-3.

Another Randall goal at the 8:58 mark of the fourth quarter stopped the run as Nazareth added three of the final four goals in the game for the final score.

Randall scored his third goal of the game and Bilek added his second of the contest in the late Nazareth run. Senior Jon Roth also scored for the Golden Flyers in the final minutes of action.

The Golden Flyers held a slim 48-46 edge in total shots but the Saints held a 30-23 edge in shots on goal. Nazareth also won 15 face-offs but was limited to 0-for-4 in man-up situations.

The Golden Flyers will head to Florida for the Spring Recess and take on Western New England (Thursday) and Keene State (Saturday) in Tampa.
