ROCHESTER, NY – Seven different players scored goals as the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team set the school record for wins in a season with its 20th victory of the season in a 7-1 win over King's College Sunday to complete the weekend sweep of United Collegiate Hokey Conference (UCHC) games against the Monarchs.
Nazareth (20-1-0 overall, 16-0-0 UCHC), ranked No. 7 in the latest USCHO.com poll, also set records for points and goals in a season set back in 2018-19 when the Golden Flyers fielded their first varsity team. The 2018-19 team also posted 19 wins which was a school record until Sunday's victory. Nazareth tallied its 121st goal of the season breaking the record of 120 and also collected its 307th point (121 goals, 186 assists) to eclipse the old record of 298 points set in 2018-19.
Freshman Sydney Swanson opened the scoring for Nazareth just 3:42 into the game and senior Kyla Thompson extended the lead just 10 seconds later as the Golden Flyers opened the early lead.
Junior Olivia Miller-Johnson assisted on both goals and finished with three assists on the afternoon.
Nazareth added it the lead later in the period as freshman Maggie Pfalzgraf and senior Nikolle Van Stralen scored goals in a span of 80 seconds midway through the period to extend the lead to 4-0.
Senior Delaney Carle capped the first period scoring with her first goal of the year with 4:15 left in the stanza. Carle had an assist on the Pfalzgraf goal and Miller-Johnson added her third assist of the day on the Van Stralen goal which was also assisted by senior Keeley Rose.
King's (1-20-0 overall, 1-16-0 UCHC) scored its lone goal in the second period and Nazareth added goals by seniors Hailey Redders and Elie Fallieras in the third period for the final score. Senior Madison Nichols assisted on the Redders goal to set the new school record for individual assists in a season with her 23rd.
Sophomore McKinley Hoff played the entire game in the Nazareth goal and finished with six saves to improve to 8-0 on the season.
Nazareth will hit the road for the final two weekends of the season with a pair of games at Alvernia next weekend and then at Utica the following weekend to close out the regular season.
