READING, PA – Six different goal scorers led the Nazareth College Women's Hockey team to its 21st win of the season as the Golden Flyers scored three third period goals for a 6-1 win over Alvernia University Friday night.
Senior Hailey Redders scored once and added three assists to lead the powerful offensive attack for Nazareth (21-1-0 overall, 17-0-0 UCHC).
The Golden Flyers took an early lead as senior Elie Fallieras and junior Ally Watrous scored to give Nazareth a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Alvernia (9-11-1, 7-8-1 UCHC) cut the lead in half with a power play goal five minutes into the second period but senior Abbey Luth redirected a shot past the Grey Wolves goalie four minutes later to regain the two-goal advantage for Nazareth as the teams finished two periods with the Golden Flyers leading 3-1.
Two minutes into the final stanza, junior Makenna Wiljanen fired a slap shot past the Alvernia goalie to extend the lead. Sophomore Julia Holmes scored from the point midway through the period to stretch the lead to 5-1 and Redders added her goal with 4:34 left to play for the final margin of victory.
Redders led the way with her four points. Holmes had a pair of points with a goal and an assist and senior Madison Nichols recorded two assists.
The same two teams will complete the weekend series with a 2 p.m. game.
