ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting Hartwick outscored Nazareth 25-16 in the fourth quarter Sunday to break open a close game as the Hawks defeated the Golden Flyers in women's basketball, 86-72.
Hartwick's second win of the season over the Golden Flyers improved the Hawks' record to 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the Empire 8. Nazareth dropped 13-7 and 8-3.
Kim Davis posted a double-double for the Golden Flyers with a career-high 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Jadyn Abrams added 17 points and
Caley Cornwell had 16.
Hartwick led by five, 61-56, heading into the final 10 minutes, then the Hawks scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to double digits. Nazareth got back to within seven, 68-61, after a basket and a free throw by Davis, but Hartwick outscored Nazareth 18-11 over the last four minutes to pull away again.
Hartwick had a first-quarter lead of 21-15 and a 43-38 lead at halftime. Nazareth stayed close in the third quarter and was within three, 59-56, following a basket by Abrams with 2:21 left. Hartwick scored the last basket of the period.
Davis' 20 points came on 8-for-15 shooting with two thre-pointers. She also had six blocks. Cornwell added seven assists and
Miyah Sizer had nine points and five assists.
Nazareth is home Tuesday to play St. John Fisher in the annual Battle of the Beaks game at 6 p.m.
