Nazareth outcores Elmira, 73-51

Golden Flyers (12-6 overall) host Russell Sage Friday at 5:30 p.m.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Nazareth returned the win column in women's basketball Tuesday as the Golden Flyers never trailed in a 73-51 victory over visiting Elmira in an Empire 8 Conference game played on Mike Daley Court at the Kidera Gymnasium.

Nazareth defeated the Soaring Eagles for the second time this season to improve to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the Empire 8. Elmira is 8-10 and 3-7.

At 7-2 in the E8, Nazareth is in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings with Utica and Hartwick.

Jadyn Abrams led all scorers with 16 points and Miyah Sizer scored 13. Kim Davis delivered seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Miyah Sizer, reigning Empire 8 Player of the Week, continued her strong play as she hit three three-pointers and scored 11 of her points as Nazareth led 17-6 after one quarter.

Davis hit her first two shot attempts, including a three-pointer, in the second quarter as Nazareth extended its lead. Abrams added three more baskets and Nazareth was up 36-19 at halftime.

Nazareth was never seriously challenged in the second half as the Golden Flyers erupted for 23 more point in the third quarter, hitting on 9 of 18 shots with three three-pointers. Abrams scored eight more points as Nazareth extended its advantage to 59-31.

Nazareth was able to substitute freely in the fourth quarter. Chelsea Woodsum scored five of her nine points, including a three-pointer and Haley Schoelerman added four points.

Nazareth's stat line included six assists for Caley Cornwell, five for Makalah Sizer and four assists and seven rebounds for Sabrina Wolfe. Nazareth shot 29-for-72 (40.3%) overall with nine three-pointers.
 
Tuesday's game was the first of four straight at home for the Golden Flyers, who host Russell Sage (Friday at 5:30 p.m.) and Hartwick (Saturday at 2 p.m.) this weekend.
