Huge Second Half Leads Men’s Basketball Past Alfred

ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Jonathan Park scored 11 of his 15 points ibn the second half and sophomore Jack Broderick added a game-high 22 points including 12 in the second half to lead the Nazareth Men's Basketball team to a 72-50 win over Alfred Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 game at Kidera Gymnasium.

Nazareth (6-1 overall, 2-0 Empire 8) jumped out to an early lead with the first seven points of the game and a 16-9 lead midway through the first period. Alfred (5-3, 1-1 Empire 8) battled back and cut the lead back to three points late in the half but a driving layup by Park with two seconds left allowed the Golden Flyers to take a 29-24 advantage into the halftime intermission.

Broderick scored the first four points of the second half with a layup and a pair of free throws to extend the lead by the Saxons battled back again and trimmed the lead to three points at 42-39 with 11:51 to play.

A Park layup with seven minutes left opened up a 12-point lead for Nazareth and a minute later, Broderick hit back-to-back three-pointers to increase the lead to 15 points at 61-46.

Park capped another Nazareth run with a dunk on a pass from freshman Jaylen Savage with 3:14 remaining to give Nazareth the commanding 20-point lead.

Broderick led all scorers with a career-high 22 points and Park added his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Graduate student Zach Stenglein and senior Logan Blankenberg added 12 points and five assists each.

Nazareth is off for the semester break and will play in the Clark University Tournament December 29 and 30 in Worcester. The Golden Flyers play Anna Maria December 29 and host Clark on December 30.
