A Pair of Double-Doubles Lead Nazareth past Anna Maria

WORCESTER, MA – Sophomore Jack Broderick and graduate student Jonathan Park each recorded a double-double as the Nazareth Men's Basketball team scored a 78-52 victory over Anna Maria College Thursday night in the first game of the Clark University Holiday Tournament.

Nazareth (7-1 overall), ranked #25 in the latest d3hoops.com national poll, will face host Clark University at 2 p.m. Friday on the second day of the classic format tournament. Clark dropped an 86-69 decision to Williams in the first game Thursday afternoon.

Against Anna Maria (1-8), the Golden Flyers started slow and freshman Jaylen Savage scored 10 of the first 18 points for Nazareth as the teams were tied 10-10 eight minutes into the game.

Following a Nazareth timeout, Park sparked an 11-4 run with a lay up and Broderick added a 3-pointer before Savage capped the run with a fast break basket after a rebound by Park.

Park finished with a season-high 21 rebounds and was just one shy of his career-best including 17 defensive rebounds. Park had 14 points and the 21 rebounds while Broderick finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Savage led all scorers with 16 points.

 Anna Maria came back and took a lead at 22-21 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.

A free throw at the six-minute mark by senior Matt Droney tied the game at 24-24. Back-to-back 3-pointers by sophomore Ryan Broderick and freshman Cameron Orr helped Nazareth regain control.

Park hit a couple late baskets to extend the lead as Nazareth took a 40-28 lead into the halftime intermission.

Jack Broderick connected on the first seven points of the second half to help the Golden Flyers extend the lead. A three-point play by senior Jordan Haggard at the 10:48 mark gave Nazareth a 15-point advantage.

In the closing minutes, Savage hit a pair of baskets and Jack Broderick connected on a jumper to push the lead to 24 points as Nazareth cruised to the win.

Senior Logan Blankenberg added 13 points and Haggard finished with seven points off the bench while Park blocked six shots.
