ROCHESTER, NY – Graduate student Jonathan Park led all scorers with 18 points and also pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Nazareth Men's Basketball team to a convincing 79-58 win Thursday night in the first round of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout Tournament.
Nazareth (3-0) remained unbeaten with a strong first half as the Golden Flyers jumped out to a 10-4 lead early and extended the lead later in the period to pull ahead by as many as 22 points in the opening 20 minutes of action. Park led Nazareth with 15 first-half points.
The Golden Flyers continued shooting well from the field with a 50 percent 17-for-34 effort in the second half but could not pull away from the Tigers (1-1) with the largest lead being 24 points but RIT could not trim the lead any closer than 15 points for the final period.
Nazareth finished with 50 percent shooting 38-for-76 and held a 40-30 edge in rebounds.
Park led the way with his 19 points and 11 rebounds while senior Logan Blankenberg and sophomore Jack Broderick each added 16 and sophomore Luke Insley chipped in 10 points.
Nazareth will face Rochester Saturday in the second game of the tournament in what essentially is a championship game as the Yellowjackets downed St. John Fisher 81-76 earlier Thursday at RIT.
