Men's Hoops Halted By U of R, 75-69

ROCHESTER, NY – In a battle of unbeatens, the University of Rochester was able to hold of Nazareth 75-69 Saturday night in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. Rochester took the lead at the 18:42 mark of the opening half and kept the lead for the rest of the game. Jordan Haggard was Nazareth's leading scorer with 15 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point land.

Jonathan Park and Logan Blankenberg were named to the all-tournament team.
 
Nazareth is now 3-1 on the season, while Rochester moves to 5-0.
 
The Yellowjackets nearly doubled up Nazareth in the first half in terms of shooting percentage, finishing 60 percent (18-for-20) compared to just 33.3 percent (10-for-30) for the Golden Flyers.
 
Nazareth got off to poor start, falling behind 15-2 at the 14:39 mark. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Haggard cut the deficit to 15-8.
 
With the lead hovering around double-digits, Haggard drilled another 3-pointer with 6:56 on the clock to make it 26-18. He was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point land to lead Naz with 12 points at the half.
 
The Yellowjackets lead was 39-27 at the break.
 
At the 18:24 mark Rochester built its largest of the game at 42-27, before Nazareth was able to chip away into the deficit. Zach Stenglein made a layup five minutes into the half to cut the lead to single digits, 46-37. The margin remained under double-digits the rest of the game.
 
Haggard's final 3-pointer of the game made the score 48-46 near the midway point of the half which was the closest the Golden Flyers would come.
 
The purple and gold were able to hang around until the end, with a layup from Stenglein making it 72-69 with :8 seconds on the clock, however, a pair of free throws on the other end halted the comeback bid. Stenglein had 13 points and three steals. Jaylen Savage played a career-high 32 minutes and netted 13 points. Blankenberg added 13 points and eights rebounds, while Jonathan Park had 11 points and eight boards.
 
The Golden Flyers will have one more contest before having a few days off for Thanksgiving break, taking on No.5 Oswego at Kidera Gymasium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
