ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Host Nazareth picked up a crucial four set conference win over Houghton on Saturday, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, hitting a season-best .313 for the match (54 kills on 129 attempts, 14 errors) on Senior Day. Four Golden Flyers had double-digit kills, including freshman
Rylie Loomis notching a career-high 18 kills on a .316 hitting percentage, to go along with eight digs.
The Golden Flyers honored their two seniors before the game,
Kaylee Kelly and
Eva Lyko.
Lyko came out ripping in the opening set, notching five kills on seven attempts (.714) as the Golden Flyers overcame a 13-10 deficit and hit .300 for the set.
After dropping the second set, the Golden Flyers built 21-14 in the third following a Lyko kill, only to have the Highlanders score eight of the next nine points to even the score at 22-22. The Golden Flyers were able to win the crucial next point on a long rally as
Tessa Grover found an open spot to help Nazareth regain the lead, 23-22. They scored the next two points to take the set.
In the fourth set, the Golden Flyers seized momentum by scoring four-straight points to take 19-18 lead. Loomis collected three-straight kills during that stretch.
Kelly had her best hitting percentage output of the season at .357, with 12 kills on 28 attempts. The Owego, NY native, as well as
Ruth Jackson, each had three service aces.
Lyko finished with a sizzling .550 hitting percentage in the match, with 12 total kills on 20 attempts.
Grover had 10 kills and 36 assists, while
Zoe Tylipakis led Naz with 15 digs.
Nazareth travels to East avenue rival St. John Fisher on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Cardinals are the lone undefeated squad at 6-0.
