ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Host Nazareth overcome a sluggish first set Friday night, storming back to win the next three over Medaille, 18-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-19 for an important Empire 8 victory. Senior
Kaylee Kelly hit a season-best .333, with a team-high 15 kills on 30 attempts, with five errors.
Nazareth moves to 6-12 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Medaille drops to 4-15 and 2-3, respectively.
After hitting just .054 in the opening set, The Golden Flyers got things rolling in the second, hitting .208 (seven kills, two errors, on 24 attempts).
Ella Kules the momentum going for Naz with her serve in the third set, helping the Golden Flyers jump out to a 6-0 advantage. Medaille clawed back to within 11-9, before the home squad rattled off 14 of the last 18 points of the set.
In the fourth set,
Tessa Grover helped Nazareth build an 11-3 lead after a service ace. The Mavericks were able to bring the game to within 19-16, but they would come no closer.
Nazareth finished hitting .209 for the match, to go along with 16 service aces.
Zoe Tylipakis put down six of the Golden Flyers service aces, while also notching 14 digs.
Grover had a game-high 27 assists, six kills and six digs.
Rylie Loomis hit .261 with seven kills.
Nazareth will host their final home game of the season on Saturday, taking on Houghton at 1 p.m. The Golden Flyers will honor their two seniors,
Kaylee Kelly and
Eva Lyko.
