Lyko has season-high in kills as women's volleyball sweeps Alfred

ALFRED, NY – Senior Eva Lyko had a season-high 13 kills as the Nazareth women's volleyball closed out conference play with a three-set victory over Alfred, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19 on Saturday. Nazareth had already secured the No. 3 seed for the Empire 8 Championships which will take place November 1-5. Nazareth will host 6th-seeded Utica in a quarterfinal match on November 1 with a time still to be determined.  Fisher (9-0) is the top seed, followed by Hartwick (8-1), Nazareth (6-3), Houghton (5-4), Medaille (4-5), and Utica (4-5). The Golden Flyers will look to avenge a five-set loss to the Pioneers during the regular season. 
 
Nazareth moves to 10-15 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while Alfred drops to 5-12 and 2-7, respectively.
 
Lyko was among three players to hit in the .400 percentage range, putting down 13 kills on 24 attempts with just three errors (.458). The senior also had four blocks. Tessa Grover had four kills on a .444 attack percentage, 35 assists, and four blocks. Ruth Jackson had three kills on a .429 attack percentage, while also adding three blocks.
 
The closest set was in the third with Nazareth holding a 16-15 lead, only to rattle off three-straight points, including a kill from Kaylee Kelly and service ace from Jenna Mattison. Kelly had 12 kills (.286) on the day.
 
Nazareth hit .298 with 43 kills on 104 attempts with just 12 errors over the three sets. The Saxons finished the match hitting .113 after hitting negative in the opening set.
 
Zoe Tylipakis led the way with 20 digs and added six kills.
 
The Golden Flyers will head to the Rowan Tournament next weekend in Glassboro, NJ beginning playing Salisbury at 7 p.m. on Friday.
