Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Defeat Against Hartwick

Box Score ONEONTA, NY – Host Hartwick scored one goal late in the first half (a Nazareth owned goal) and was able to hold the Nazareth women's soccer team off the board on Saturday, handing the Golden Flyers their first conference loss of the season, 1-0. With the win, Hartwick now sits tied at the top of the standings with Nazareth with 15 points at 4-1-3 overall. St. John Fisher (4-0-2) is just a point behind Hartwick and Nazareth and will face off in a pivotal matchup Saturday night against Alfred (3-1-3) at 6 p.m.
 
Despite registering just four shots in the opening period, the host Hawks were able to find the back of the netting the 37th minute on a goal from Nicole Conway. Nazareth had 12 shots in the opening half, four of which were on net and saved.
 
Nazareth had a total of 20 shots in the game, six of which were saved by Hartwick goalkeeper Sara Staup. Sarah Merriwether had four shots, three of which were on goal, while Alexandra Skoda also chipped in four shots.
 
It was the sixth time this season that the Golden Flyers were held without a goal.
 
For Nazareth, Annika Monfort made two saves on eight shots faced.
 
Nazareth will host a non-conference contest on Wednesday, squaring off against SUNY Brockport at 4 p.m. for their Breast Cancer Awareness game.  The Golden Flyers soccer team will be collecting donations on gameday and all proceeds will be benefit the Wilmot Cancer Center for breast cancer research.
