ELMIRA, NY – The Nazareth Women's Volleyball team used a balanced attack and solid hitting in the final two sets to record a 3-0 win at Elmira Friday night. The win locks the Golden Flyers into the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Empire 8 Tournament.
In the first round of the tournament, Nazareth will host the No. 6 seed November 1 at Kidera Gym.
Against Elmira (8-18 overall, 2-6 Empire 8), Nazareth (9-15, 5-3 Empire 8) won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-7.
Senior Kaylee Kelly led Nazareth with 10 kills. Sophomore Tessa Grover had a solid match with five kills, 21 assists and seven digs while fellow sophomore Zoe Tylipakis added five kills, five digs and two aces.
Nazareth had a negative hitting percentage in the opening set but rebounded for a .334 in the second set and a stellar .529 in the final set. Elmira had a negative attack over the final two sets and just a .069 in the first set.
The Golden Flyers will close out Empire 8 schedule at Alfred at 1 p.m. Saturday.
