ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth women's volleyball won sets one and three but were unable to close the deal against WPI on Friday night, falling 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 15-9 at RIT. Senior
Kaylee Kelly had a season-high 18 kills on a .222 attack percentage (eight errors on 45 attempts). She also had 11 digs.
Nazareth came out serving strong in the opening set, with seven service aces. The Golden Flyers trailed 8-6 before four-straight points, including a kill from freshman
Rylie Loomis. They never trailed after taking the lead in the set.
In the second, Nazareth let leads of 17-12 and 20-16 slip away to allow WPI to even the score at one apiece.
The Golden Flyers held the Engineers to their worst hitting set in third at .026 and cruised to a 25-17 victory.
After falling in the fourth, Nazareth jumped to a 6-5 in the deciding set before letting things slip away. The Golden Flyers had three-straight attack errors that led to points, followed by three-straight service aces which put the game out of reach.
Nazareth had 18 service aces in the match, including six apiece from
Ruth Jackson and
Ella Kules.
Tessa Grover had 28 assists, 11 digs and seven kills.
Zoe Tylipakis led the Golden Flyers with 31 digs.
Nazareth will return to action on Saturday with a pair of matches at RIT, beginning with Clark University at 1 p.m., followed by the host Tigers at 3 p.m.
