Abrams Leads Nazareth Past Houghton to Open Empire 8 Play

ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Jadyn Abrams scored a team-high 25 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out six assists to lead the Nazareth College Women's Basketball team to a convincing 88-53 win over Houghton College Tuesday to open the Empire 8 schedule on Mike Daley Court at Kidera Gymnasium.

Nazareth (6-4 overall, 1-0 Empire 8) won its fifth consecutive game on the strength of hot shooting from the start as the Golden Flyers score the first 16 points of the game and scored a season-high 88 points.

Abrams hit an early 3-pointer and fellow senior Caley Cornwell added a pair of jumpers as Nazareth jumped out to an early lead.

The Golden Flyers continued to apply pressure and shoot well as the team built a 31-8 lead after the first 10 minutes of action.

Another hot start in the second quarter extended the lead as Nazareth scored the first nine points of the period and had 16 of the first 14 to extend the lead to 45-10.

Nazareth led 55-24 at halftime.

The Golden Flyers added 24 more points in the third quarter to take a 79-39 advantage after three quarters. Houghton (6-4, 0-1 E8) used a 14-9 edge in the final quarter for the final score.

Graduate student Sabrina Wolfe scored 13 points and Cornwell added 12 for double-figures scoring. The balanced Nazareth offense also saw points from freshman Madilann Johnson who netted a season-high nine point and seniors Kim Davis and Makalah Sizer who each scored seven points. Senior Miyah Sizer added six points. She and Davis each had a team-high eight rebounds.
Nazareth will continue Empire 8 play Friday and Saturday at Hartwick (5:30 p.m. Friday) and at Russell Sage (2 p.m. Saturday).
