ELMIRA, N.Y. – Senior
Jadyn Abrams led all scorers with a season-high 30 points Friday for visiting Nazareth as the Golden Flyers defeated Elmira in an Empire 8 Conference women's basketball game, 72-57.
Nazareth improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8. Elmira is 6-6 and 1-3.
Abrams hit 11-of-22 shots from the field with six three-pointers to propel the Golden Flyers. She also had six rebounds and four assists.
Sabrina Wolfe and
Kim Davis each scored 11 points. Wolfe also passed for seven assists and Davis grabbed six rebounds.
Nazareth got off to a good start by hitting 9 of 17 first-quarter shots to go up 24-11. Abrams went 5-for-6 with two three-pointers to score 12 of her points. Davis made all three of her field goal attempts for six points.
The second quarter featured three-point baskets for
Chelsea Woodsum and
Sarah Simmons, the latter coming just before the halftime horn, as Nazareth led 38-25.
Nazareth was never seriously challenged in the second half as the Golden Flyers pulled away. The Golden Flyers sank six more three-point shots in the second half, including one by Davis and another by senior
Caley Cornwell.
Overall, Nazareth went 25-for-59 (42.4%) from the field with 10 three-pointers.
Nazareth hosts Utica Saturday at 2 p.m. St. John Fisher handed Utica its first loss Friday, 84-51.
